Making heavy equipment shipping easier to navigate.

Our principals’ experience with the Trusted Dispatch Marketplace, a digital marketplace connecting people shipping heavy equipment with carriers across Canada and the United States.

01 / CONTEXT

One shipment, many decisions.

Moving a piece of heavy equipment starts with a specialized set of questions: what is being moved, how large and heavy is it, where is it going, and which carrier can take it? Shippers need a way to describe the load and understand a likely price; carriers need enough detail to assess the opportunity.

Trusted Dispatch brings those participants together in a digital heavy-haul marketplace. Our principals’ experience includes work on Trusted Dispatch software. Alex is a co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Trusted Dispatch.

02 / THE CHALLENGE

Make a complex transaction approachable.

A useful marketplace needs to translate a specialized transportation process into steps that are clear to different users. Equipment dimensions, weight, origin and destination all influence a shipment. The experience must help a shipper provide relevant information while giving carriers a practical way to evaluate work.

It also has to coordinate actions over time: an estimate can become a posted load; a carrier may accept it or make an offer; participants need notifications, communication and a clear understanding of what happens next.

03 / THE PLATFORM

Connect the people behind the haul.

Trusted Dispatch describes a workflow in which users obtain an estimate, post their shipment and connect with verified carriers. Its published help materials describe saved estimates, carrier offers, in-platform communication and notifications. The service provides web and mobile access for participants through the shipping process.

Trusted Dispatch says estimates draw on comparable carrier bids; a shipper can post a price and a verified carrier can book or submit an offer. The company describes a prepaid process in which funds are held in trust until delivery and released using a delivery code. That combines pricing, multi-party agreement, messaging, delivery confirmation and payment milestones in a single transaction journey.

These capabilities illustrate the kind of integrated product experience involved in a two-sided marketplace: different users see different tasks, each action changes the state of a shipment, and the information collected at the beginning must remain useful as the work progresses.

04 / RELEVANCE

Digital coordination in the real world.

In 2022, investor Golden Section announced a US$1 million funding round for Trusted Dispatch. This was funding for the marketplace company, providing context for the product—not a claim about funding received by Denting the Universe or a particular individual.

The marketplace brings product design together with the practical details of transportation. Our principals’ experience with it is relevant wherever a platform needs to connect external participants, carry a transaction through changing stages and make a specialized process approachable.
